What we liked
- + Low price of about $30 makes it an easy first scope for a child who may not stay interested
- + Kit includes tripod, finderscope, two eyepieces and a Barlow lens, so there is nothing more to buy
- + Setup is part of the activity, which the listing frames as learning by doing for ages 6 to 12
Trade-offs
- - The 50mm aperture is small, so views of the Moon and bright planets are modest and the 100X claim is a ceiling
- - Marketed as a toy, so the listing gives little on glass, coatings or mount stability
