What we liked
- + Same brand and the same compact apochromatic doublet idea as the EvoStar 72, with FPL-53 glass to control color fringing.
- + 2.8-inch Crayford-style 11:1 focuser gives fine control, and the listing includes mounting rings with a V-style dovetail plate.
- + 600mm focal length at f/7.5, with a carry handle and padded aluminum case for transport.
Trade-offs
- - This is a larger 80mm tube and sits at a higher price tier than the EvoStar 72, so it is a step up rather than a like-for-like swap.
- - An f/7.5 focal ratio is slower than the f/6 range, so wide-field imaging may need a reducer or flattener.
