What we liked
- + Folds to 12.4 inches at about 2 lb, small enough for a daypack on a hike to a dark site.
- + Rated for 13.2 lb (6 kg), and the maker advises about half that at full 52 inch height for safe use.
- + Center column is removable and telescopic, and the kit includes a quick-release panoramic ball head.
Trade-offs
- - Maximum height of 52 inches including the column is short for tall users, who will stoop to look through a camera.
- - The 6 kg rating, halved at full height, limits it to lighter cameras and lenses, not heavy telephoto setups.
